ITEN — TURIN, JUNE 2018

Certain projects are changing shape all the time. They follow present time, which opens up new perspectives at an ever increasing speed, and sometimes even manage to anticipate the future. They live on research, curiosity and a desire to explore new ideas and previously unseen spaces. Operae has worked in this direction over the years and none of the last eight editions has been identical. We have always worked on the new frontiers of design, taking every opportunity that has arisen to take an active part in ongoing developments (as was the case of self-production at the outset and of the renewed role of artisanship and collectible design more recently). In the meantime, we have created a close-knit network of international contacts and collected a huge mass of data about contemporary design. The professionals we have worked with have remained within our orbit and, in turn, have often attracted other people interested in design from many different points of view. It now seems to us that the moment has come to reflect on all the wealth we have accumulated in a decade of intense work. It’s our hope that all the many people who are asking to be updated on our future plans are able to hear the sound of work in progress in the background – the noise of a worksite where all the mechanisms and gears are working at full capacity. We now wish to stay focused and keep our concentration to put the work we’ve done so far to good use, and to find, yet again, the language best suited to the time we are living in. This is why in 2018 we shan’t be staging the event as we’ve done every two years since 2010. It’s time again for us to transform ourselves into something new and original, for us to continue our journey without stopping to rest on our laurels. We’ve always liked changes, so stay connected! As we said, ours is a work in progress.
