What is the process that leads to the creation of a trend? Is it because all of a sudden one wishes to use the flared jeans that have been forgotten at the back of the wardrobe? Nothing is left to chance. There are things that become fashionable and others do not. Trends are a creative hypothesis. Neither consolidated nor tangible. They are something one can work on and give it some shape. A researcher, a stylist and a fashion-addicted journalist will be joining to discuss a key topic.
Speakers: Cristina Tardito, creative director of Kristina Ti Paolo Ferrarini, trend researcher and university teacher Moderating: Luca Beatrice, art critic, journalist, president of Il Circolo dei lettori
Certain projects are changing shape all the time. They
follow present time, which opens up new perspectives at
an ever increasing speed, and sometimes even manage
to anticipate the future. They live on research, curiosity
and a desire to explore new ideas and previously unseen
spaces. Operae has worked in this direction over the
years and none of the last eight editions has been
identical. We have always worked on the new frontiers
of design, taking every opportunity that has arisen to
take an active part in ongoing developments (as was the
case of self-production at the outset and of the renewed
role of artisanship and collectible design more recently).
In the meantime, we have created a close-knit network
of international contacts and collected a huge mass
of data about contemporary design. The professionals
we have worked with have remained within our orbit and,
in turn, have often attracted other people interested
in design from many different points of view. It now
seems to us that the moment has come to reflect
on all the wealth we have accumulated in a decade
of intense work. It’s our hope that all the many people
who are asking to be updated on our future plans are
able to hear the sound of work in progress in the
background – the noise of a worksite where all the
mechanisms and gears are working at full capacity.
We now wish to stay focused and keep our concentration
to put the work we’ve done so far to good use, and
to find, yet again, the language best suited to the time
we are living in. This is why in 2018 we shan’t be staging
the event as we’ve done every two years since 2010.
It’s time again for us to transform ourselves into
something new and original, for us to continue our
journey without stopping to rest on our laurels.
We’ve always liked changes, so stay connected! As we
said, ours is a work in progress.
