CAMP DESIGN GALLERY

CAMP DESIGN GALLERY

A contemporary design gallery founded in Milan – area of Navigli – by Beatrice Bianco and Valentina Lucio, two young gallerists passionate about the aesthetic research. Camp Design Gallery researches and promotes new young talents in the field of collectible design. A seasonal scheduling of exhibitions, fairs and appointments materialises Camps’ intent of becoming the seismograph for those particular phenomena of experimentation that give birth to authorial design projects. An intellectual effort that wants to create “critical discourse” through pieces of contemporary design – intended as vehicles for a new aesthetic culture – together with an ironic sensitivity and a conception that sees design works turning into sculptures thanks to the Italian traditional craftsmanship.

TRAKATAN

TRAKATAN

Trakatan was born in 2012 after the acquisition of a historic leather workshop, active in Turin since 1942 in the making of bags and fashion accessories. Andrea Boffetta and Carlotta Sampò decided to keep, while innovating, the traditional production line. They kept the same employees and their savoir-faire for the making of the Acutis 1942 collection – with classic and timeless models from the workshop’s heritage –and of Trakatan, a new brand to suit contemporary needs – with minimal and practical unisex creations. Every bag is entirely handmade by artisans that have devoted themselves for generations to the selection and treatment of the best Italian leathers. Refined and uniquely shaped pieces, 8-30’s creations become ambassadors of the Made in Italy artisanal tradition in the international market, also through exclusive collaborations with Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini and Pagani.

ANNARATONE

ANNARATONE

In the heart of the gold district of Valenza, world-renowned city for its centuries-old jewellery tradition, Elisa Annaratone works metals and precious stones, mixing ancient knowledge and new technology in her atelier. After graduating as Jeweller Master at the Art Institute of Valenza, she learns the high-end jewellery techniques in her father’s workshop, which she then perfects during collaborations with Genevan and Monegasque jewellers. Often commissioned in unique pieces or small series, her jewels are refined creations, in which the traditional and precious wire wrapping technique is intertwined with innovative procedures, as 3D modelling and printing, turning, milling and direct metal printing. The research activity is not confined to the technique: gems and diamonds are mounted on gold, platinum and silver, but also less noble metals as bronze and brass, and cutting-edge materials as titanium, resin and simulated diamonds are moulded in luxury ornaments.

FERRERO1947

FERRERO1947

Ferrero1947 was founded in Turin in 1947 with a clear objective: the dissemination of contemporary design; each project proposed by the gallery has an intrinsic characteristic, that of being contemporary, always with a close relationship with the designer and the implementer to know the full potential of the single product. Run by the watchful eye of one family, the gallery proposes the innovative, experimental and contemporary of the design world, through all the decades since Second World War to today and presenting currents, trends and personalities that characterise the present. The proposal of unique pieces and limited series of young designers alongside the historical icons of design in their original version – not only Italian, but French, Dutch, English, Scandinavian, Japanese and Brasilian – because for Ferrero1947 "every teacher was a young designer."

Marbles, stones and granites of all provenances, conglomerates, concrete, quartz, resin and ceramic based compounds are the raw materials of his creations – combinations of sacred and profane, of tradition and newness. COLTELLERIA SILVANO COLLINI
Bra, Italy

COLTELLERIA SILVANO COLLINI

Coltelleria Silvano Collini tells a story almost a century old, the story of a knowledge passed on from father to son, which today unites three different generations in the artisanal production of cutlery. In the historic workshop founded in 1929 by his uncle Francesco, whom arrives in Bra from Val Rendena – land of knife grinders and cutlers – the owner Silvano Collini works with his father and his young son. Carefully selected, the best steels become sharp blades through entirely handmade processes: sport knives, collectible pocket knives and especially kitchen and table cutlery. The excellent production is often commissioned, not only by the best restaurants in Langhe and Roero – advocates of the slow food philosophy in search of functional tools to enjoy food pleasures – but also by American and Japanese companies, which import Piedmonts’ truffles together with their traditional cutting equipment.

BALUME

With the intention to recover the ancient handmade wood processing, in 2006 Daniele Balangero founds the company Minusié – carpenter in Piedmontese dialect – in Borgo San Dalmazzo, a small village in the province of Cuneo. By working high-end and local – sometimes forgotten – materials according to the tradition, the eclectic art of carpentry unveils its wide ranging potential. In the minusié’s workshop, old furniture regains its original splendour with ancient restoring techniques of construction, collation and finishing. Moreover, pencil sketches take shape into new furniture, and veneered wood lamps with sinuous shapes testify the beauty of the material, highlighting its grain and natural polychromy thanks to the project Balume. To preserve and spread an ancient know-how, Daniele also teaches at the carpentry class of S. Carlo school in Cuneo.

MANIERA
Brussels, Belgium

MANIERA

MANIERA commissions architects and artists to develop limited edition furniture series. As architects often have a close relationship with the visual arts and artists are often inspired by the spatial environment, MANIERA intends to crystalize these proximities into new design proposals. More than just furniture, the objects issued by MANIERA are a deliberate search for collisions between the realms of architecture, design and art. Above all, MANIERA wants to bring a young, up-and-coming generation to the fore, but also to show established and renowned figures in a new way. The most important elements in this are a personal language and writing, a conceptual mode of thought, and an authentic and idiosyncratic way of working. MANIERA was founded in 2014 by Amaryllis Jacobs and Kwinten Lavigne, who have both had long careers in major Brussels art institutions. MANIERA’s first exhibitions took place in domestic settings in Brussels. In April 2016 the couple opened a gallery in ‘Le Sablon’, the Brussels neighbourhood specialising in art and vintage design. Every now and then, MANIERA will continue to exhibit in interesting residential buildings when it is relevant to the project.

GUGLIELMO POLETTI
Eindhoven, Netherlands

GUGLIELMO POLETTI

Guglielmo Poletti (1987) is an Italian designer, currently based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. After his first studies in Milan, he earns an MA in Contextual Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, where he graduates in June 2016. His practice is driven by a constant search for the hearth of the matter, combined with a fascination for basic structures and elementary constructions. His interest in the essence of things often leads him to investigate the limit of materials, dealing with the notions of balance and fragility. Within the set of circumstances, simplicity comes as the results of a solved complexity, where the work is built around the manipulation of unconventional details. Subtle gestures allow him to achieve a deeper impact, by deconstructing an image and then restoring it with the smallest intervention. A ‘thinking-through-making’ approach defines an experimental attitude, where intuition plays a significant role to ensure coherence in the work, getting to consistent results through a very personal vocabulary.

A home which is also a gallery - a gallery which is also a home.
This is THE GALLERY's and its owner's philosophy. Konrad Kern moved from Cologne to Brussels, where he opened his first shop in 1994 (artistic adviser: Marino Fermi). After nine years, in 2003 he took a very special decision to combine gallery and residence, work and private life in one big space where he exhibits and lives at the same time. The furnishing therefore is no longer just a series of collection items to be put on show in a glass-case - an imaginary itinerary which appeals to the collector but deprives them of their original function reducing them to museum exhibits. It becomes a combination of elements which create a living and constantly evolving domestic environment. Visitors are no longer anonymous passers-by but friends who are welcomed in a family environment where they can recognize and share the patterns of their daily life and passion as a collector.
